Common Insurance Myths

Ten beliefs that regularly leave families under-protected.

“I am young and healthy, so I do not need cover yet”

Being young and healthy is precisely when cover is cheapest and underwriting is easiest. Premiums are locked at entry age.

“My employer’s policy is enough”

It ends when the job ends, the sum insured is usually modest, and it rarely covers parents adequately.

“Insurance is an investment”

Protection and investment are different jobs. Bundling them tends to do both poorly.

“Claims are never paid”

Published settlement ratios say otherwise. Most rejections trace back to non-disclosure at proposal stage.

“I do not need to declare that condition”

You do. Non-disclosure is the leading cause of rejected claims.

“Term insurance is a waste because nothing comes back”

Nothing coming back means nothing happened. That is the outcome you want.

“One policy is enough for the whole family forever”

Cover needs change with income, dependants and liabilities. Annual review exists for a reason.

“Buying online means I am on my own at claim time”

You do not have to be. Advisory support is separate from the purchase channel.
